Do any of you have criteria that must be met before a new age reader can begin production aging? Things such as percent agreement, CV, etc.

If this is a species that others in your lab are already ageing, you can generate some statistics to help make this decision. We expect a new reader to achieve the 'average' CV or precision statistics we've got for that species within lab.

For a brand new species, especially a very difficult species (e.g. shortraker RF), it's harder to make this decision, i.e. when does this become a production SPECIES?

ASIDE: Looks like we don't have tons of CARE folks checking in here often. I stumbled on this forum when trying to figure out who ages herring when one of my co-workers asked me that question.
