The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries, Headquarters Marine Fisheries Section, is recruiting for the Fishery Biologist position that will lead the Age Determination Unit (ADU), a statewide age reading lab responsible for ensuring age data production (utilizing otoliths or similar structures) and conducting age related research to support groundfish (e.g., sablefish, rockfishes, and lingcod) and invertebrate (e.g., geoduck) fisheries management. Specifically, this position will ensure age reading production goals, age data quality, supervise age reading staff, and produce age data for a variety of commercially fished species throughout the state. This position will also collaborate with national and international groups to ensure advancements in age related research are incorporated within the ADU. This position requires in- and out-of-state travel (15 – 30 days/year) to attend meetings and to participate in field research activities.
This vacancy is being recruited for at both the Fishery Biologist II and Fishery Biologist III levels. You must apply for each level individually to be considered for both levels. This is a flexibly staffed position and the vacancy may be filled at either level depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. Starting salary will be determined by the level at which the position is hired. If filled at the Level II, promotion to the Level III will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
